We are currently seeking a Data Associate. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the effective use of data within Fixed Income & Risk Management Services (FIRMS). The selected candidate will manage data requirements for both internal applications and commercial product offerings while maintaining a focus on strategic use of data across the organization.

Essential Accountabilities:
  • Coordinating efforts across the Data Strategy & Operations group (DSO) to support FIRMS data needs by interfacing with enterprise master data assets and understanding Content Rights Management needs.
  • Catalogue the data inputs used in commercial models within FIRMS and coordinating efforts to standardize input data sets where possible
  • Work with members of other teams such as Project Management, Business Units, and IT to understand, identify and address issues or opportunities that lead to effective data management processes and improvements in data quality and services
  • Compiling the global alternatives of potential data sources and integrating them into a framework for utilization in the collection and distribution process
  • Deliver recommendations and support implementation of workflow and process re-design for more effective collection, storage and distribution of content.
  • Working with technical and development teams to ensure appropriate implementation of data changes
  • Actively participate in mapping the many data sources to be included in Enterprise Data Management Solution to the data model established IT modeling team.
  • Coordinate the testing of the data feeds and the maps upon each implementation to ensure expectations are met.
  • Provide recommendations and support implementation on technical or procedural workflow on data production by partnering with IT to build new data processes.
  • Perform root cause and trend analysis and implement solutions that lead to data quality and process improvements
  • Manage and run ad hoc data queries from multiple database types to identify data inconsistencies and support data production groups initiatives
  • Manage data collection from multiple sources and make recommendations on alternatives for implementation
  • Scrutinize data record counts from differing databases/sources, determine reasons for any discrepancies and implement streamlined processes for the Data Operations group
  • Working with the Data Quality Assurance, identify measurable data and implement metrics to be used as global benchmarks to gauge performance of the data quality control group
  • Assist to define the data requirements of our Ratings Analysts by understanding how they use and manipulate the data. Constantly and continually review, evaluate and report data sources and how the business unit will use the data
  • Provide project management and data strategy expertise for projects in the FIRMS organization
  • Leverage different data points and resource elements across FIRMS to streamline processes and procedures and to enhance efficiencies of S&P's various products
  • Partner with Associates in the international subsidiary based in Mumbai to help implement/coordinate data strategies
  • Perform business analysis on enhancement requests of processes and systems
  • Represent the team, its responsibilities and vision to management and business audiences
  • Present data strategy recommendations on the technical and procedural processes to the Managing Director of the DSO as well as other senior members of FIRMS leadership

Key Functional Competencies:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Mathematics ; CPA, CFA and/or an advanced degree a plus
  • 7+ years of work experience; 5 to 8 years data management experience
  • 4+ years in a single data domain (pricing, reference, fundamentals, structured finance)
  • 2+ years in an additional data domain
  • Requires advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and advanced Access skills
  • Intermediate experience with SQL, including the ability to create complex queries, navigate large data models, and create basic data models for data analysis
  • Intermediate understanding of multiple sets of data sets: Fixed Income, Equity, Derivatives, Structured Finance
  • Experience with AGILE software development process

  • Breadth of international experience, including examining and integrating data across multiple markets.
